The Things That Keep Me Growing as a Leader

Aug 21, 2026

As bridal shop owners, it’s easy to get so focused on pouring into our teams and brides that we forget to pour back into ourselves.

But here’s what I’ve learned over nearly two decades in bridal: the health of your leadership sets the tone for everything else—your team, your store, even your home. If you’re not growing, your business can’t grow either.

So today, I want to share a few things I plug into regularly that help me stay grounded, inspired, and growing as a leader.

1️⃣ Leadership: Learning From the Experts

I’ve learned that great leadership isn’t just about experience—it’s about perspective. Two of my favorite ways to stay sharp are:

  • Craig Groeschel’s Leadership Podcast – full of practical wisdom and perspective shifts for entrepreneurs who want to grow with integrity.
  • How I Built This – incredible stories of founders and entrepreneurs who faced challenges, pivoted, and scaled their businesses.

These podcasts remind me to keep thinking strategically and lead my team with clarity and confidence.

2️⃣ Learning: Investing in What You’re Good At

Recently, I read “What You’re Really Good At”, which dives into turning your natural gifts into revenue. It’s practical, inspiring, and really helped me reflect on how I’ve leveraged my own strengths in bridal and coaching.

Fun fact: I was featured on the Brand Builders Group Podcast, which aligns perfectly with this book’s message. It reminded me that what feels ordinary to me—like helping a bride find her dream dress—might feel extraordinary to someone else, and that’s the magic of leadership and service.

3️⃣ Mindset: Timeless Lessons

Some books are classics for a reason. For me, the ones that shaped the way I lead and communicate every day are:

  • Seven Habits of Highly Effective People
  • How to Win Friends & Influence People

These books aren’t just theory—they help me approach my team and brides with empathy, focus, and intentionality, even in the most stressful moments.

4️⃣ Encouragement: Remembering Your “Why”

Every business has moments that make you question everything. I shared one of mine in my recent interview on The Influential Personal Brand Podcast, where I talked about a frustrating bridal experience that ultimately became the foundation for two thriving businesses.

It’s a powerful reminder that:

What feels ordinary to you might just be extraordinary to someone else.

5️⃣ Family + Rhythm: Intentional Habits for Life

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that healthy rhythms don’t happen by accident—they’re built with intention.

On a recent episode of The Something New Show, I sat down with my longtime friends Russ and Jackie Miller to talk about marriage, ministry, and family rhythms that keep life grounded when everything feels full.

These conversations remind me what really matters: faith, connection, and showing up for the people you love.

6️⃣ Community: Surround Yourself With the Right People

I make it a point to surround myself with women who get it—those who are building businesses and lives that align with their values.

Community changes everything. If you don’t have a circle yet, start small. Reply to this blog, send us a message on IG, or join a group of like-minded bridal shop owners. Connection and accountability will accelerate your growth faster than anything else.

Growth Doesn’t Happen by Accident

The truth is, leadership growth isn’t a one-time thing. It happens when you keep learning, keep connecting, and keep showing up as the leader your business—and your team—needs.

Take these six areas seriously: leadership, learning, mindset, encouragement, family + rhythm, and community. They’re not just “nice to have” extras—they’re what separate good bridal shops from great, thriving, industry-leading businesses.
